Definitions: LOVE FAITH AND GOSPEL

LOVE:

God is Love {1st John 4:7-16} Authentic love is received from God and shared with others.  Love is manifest throughout interest and affection towards God and our neighbors. Evidence of God’s love is seen in 1st Corinthians 13 which reads “Love is patient..love is kind..It does not envy..it does not boast, it is not proud. It does not dishonor others…It is not self-seeking it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs.  Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres. Love never fails….[see 1st John 4:7-21, 1st Corinthians 13,1st John 2, and Matthew 22 36-40]

FAITH:

Faith involves belief, trust, obedience and loyalty to a person or thing.  [See Hebrews 12 and Genesis 22 1-14]

GOSPEL:

The word gospel literally means “good news” or “glad tidings”. In the ancient world, when an army had defeated its enemies, often it would send a message back to its homeland with the good news of victory. The job of this messenger was to herald the news to all people in the town square.  So too Jesus Christ has conquered our enemies (sin, Satan and death) through His death and resurrection, and calls upon all His Followers to publish that new to everyone.   [See 1st Corinthians 15: 1-8, The Bridge]
